The groundbreaking ceremony for the smart construction base of China State Construction Hailong Technology Company Limited was held at the Baiyun Lake Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Guangzhou's Baiyun district on Aug 5.

The project is the city's first world-class smart construction demonstration base centered on modular integrated construction (MiC) technology, bringing together research and development, manufacturing, and interior decoration in a single integrated facility.

The base spans 130 mu (8.67 hectares) with a construction area of 225,300 square meters. It is expected to be put into operation in several phases in 2027, with an annual output value of approximately 1.4 billion yuan ($207 million).

MiC technology, developed by Hailong, involves pre-fabricating high-quality building modules in a factory setting before assembling them on-site. The method reduces construction time by over 50 percent, minimizes on-site waste by approximately 70 percent, and aligns with green, low-carbon building goals.

Guangzhou, as a national pilot city for smart construction, aims to integrate the technology with the construction industry, targeting an industrial output of 500 billion yuan by 2030. The city has set ambitious modular construction targets for new housing projects and is offering incentives for social investment.

The base will enhance Baiyun district's role as a core hub for smart construction, fostering a comprehensive industrial ecosystem and providing efficient and high-quality solutions for Guangzhou's urban renewal and housing projects.
