Guangzhou's Baiyun district has made significant strides in enhancing its environmental landscape in recent years through comprehensive initiatives focused on water quality improvement, green space development, smart air management, and recycling upgrades.

This holistic ecological transformation has turned once-polluted rivers into scenic waterways, converted idle lands into recreational green spaces, and replaced dust-laden skies with clear blue ones, creating a harmonious blend of urban living and nature that boosts residents' well-being.

A stroll along the banks of the Shijing River now reveals a picturesque scene of clear waters and lush greenery. In 2025, the district revived its traditional dragon boat race on this rejuvenated river, celebrating its century-old tradition of water festivities.

Previously, rivers like Shijing and Baihaimian posed environmental challenges. After more than a decade of dedicated efforts, these waterways have undergone a remarkable transformation from "black and odorous" to "clear and green".
