Guangzhou Private Science, Technology Park celebrates 30th anniversary
This year, the Guangzhou Private Science and Technology Park celebrates its 30th anniversary since its establishment.
Established in 1995, the park was China's first private science and technology park at the national level. Over the last 30 years, it has grown into a dynamic center for private sector development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The milestone was celebrated with a series of high-profile events, culminating in a gathering held by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce in Guangzhou on July 10. During this event, the park unveiled a "30th Anniversary Special Contribution Honor Roll" to recognize enterprises and individuals whose contributions have shaped the park's trajectory.
In a commemorative editorial, Nanfang Daily wrote, "What we see here is a narrative of a 'super park' that has unfolded over three decades. It began with breaking institutional barriers in the 1990s, progressed to pioneering innovation-driven growth and today embodies a strong commitment to 'encouraging, supporting and guiding the development of the non-public sector'."

The park currently hosts over 7,000 private companies, covering only 0.7 percent of Baiyun district's land area, yet they produce more than half of the district's industrial output. In 2024, its operating income surpassed 220 billion yuan ($30.69 billion), reflecting a 13.7 percent annual increase and maintaining double-digit growth for eight straight years.
Behind these numbers are thousands of founder stories, many of which echo a common refrain: the park's "full-cycle accompanying service" philosophy.
"In 2006, when we relocated here, we were constrained by old factory capacity and chemical environmental assessment pressures," said Zhao Wenlin, honorary chairman and chief engineer of Chenghe Technology, a company that later broke into Sinopec's supply chain and went public on the STAR Market.
"The park coordinated 30 mu (2 hectares) of industrial land for us, equipped with specialized wastewater treatment, and fast-tracked the land certificate," Zhao said.
Miao Mingsong, general manager of Guangzhou Baiyun Technology, offered a 20-year perspective: "We settled here in 2005. The park's talent settlement policies, public rental housing and support for children's schooling were instrumental in attracting top researchers".
Reflecting on its development history, Guangzhou identified the private science and technology park as a key innovation hub in 2009 and provided initial "seed funding" for its infrastructure growth.
In 2021, the park gained a major opportunity by being designated as the "National Federation of Industry and Commerce's Demonstration Base for Technological Innovation in Private Enterprises". This led to the creation of a new framework of "one core area and three industrial parks" and a credit line of 10.5 billion yuan to fund its continued growth.
Today, the park's modern headquarters building blends with rich ecological landscapes. Smart streetlights are arranged in rows, sponge-like roads meander through the area, and a well-connected transportation network seamlessly links the park to the economic hub of the Greater Bay Area.
As the main development platform for the "One Park, Two Towns, Three Capitals and Four Zones" initiative in Baiyun, the future prospects of the Guangzhou Private Science and Technology Park appear very promising.
