1/3 of Guangzhou's New Year flowers come from Baiyun
As the Chinese New Year approaches, Baiyun district is bustling with brisk sales amid the peak season for festive flowers.
Serving as a core production area for Guangzhou's flower industry, the district is expected to supply nearly six million pots of Chinese New Year flowers this year, accounting for almost one-third of the city's total output.
Notably, Shima peach blossoms from Baiyun make up nearly 80 percent of Guangzhou's supply.

In 2025, the district's flower industry achieved an output value of 470 million yuan ($67.63 million), with festive flower sales hitting a record 66 million yuan — a figure that is projected to exceed 70 million yuan this year.
With more than a century of history and heritage, Baiyun's flower industry has evolved since China's reform and opening-up period into a fully integrated chain encompassing production, research, and sales.
In recent years, the sector has transitioned toward intensification and branding, establishing modern bases such as the Phalaenopsis Industrial Park. It has also embraced new models like e-commerce livestreaming and agritourism.

Today, Baiyun's flowers are sold not only across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area but also as far as Beijing, Shanghai, and even in Southeast Asian markets.
Looking ahead, Baiyun district will continue to strengthen seed industry innovation and technological upgrades, driving the flower industry from scaled expansion to high-quality development while solidifying its leading role as Guangzhou's central hub for flower production and distribution.
