Guangzhou hydrogen firm gains momentum in future industries
A hydrogen-energy company in Guangzhou's Baiyun district is attracting national attention as a rising player in China's push to advance future industries, according to a feature report published by Xinhua Daily Telegraph in March.
The report examines six pioneering entrepreneurs from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area who are leading advancements in cutting-edge sectors, including quantum technology, bio-manufacturing and hydrogen energy. Among them is Yang Qiang, chairman of Guangdong Yuntao Hydrogen Energy Technology, who shared his views on the fast-evolving hydrogen industry and the strategic developments of his company.
Founded in 2022, Yuntao Hydrogen specializes in the research, development and manufacturing of hydrogen fuel-cell systems. The company has built a comprehensive industrial ecosystem covering hydrogen production, storage, transportation, refueling and application.

By 2025, its fuel-cell system installations and the number of vehicles equipped with its technology ranked first nationwide, accounting for 20.03 percent of the market and supporting more than 2,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The company's systems are now used in heavy-duty trucks, buses and sanitation vehicles, while new applications are being explored in hydrogen-powered ships, unmanned aerial vehicles and other emerging sectors.
Yang said China's industrial strategy is shifting from "catching up in scale" to shaping the industries of the future. Stronger policy support, sustained investment, and broader application scenarios are expected to help move hydrogen energy from pilot projects to large-scale commercial deployment during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).
