Guangzhou advances hydrogen energy with new platform
Guangzhou, the capital city of South China's Guangdong province, has commenced construction of an industrial platform to boost the security of the nation's hydrogen energy industrial chain, with an emphasis placed on core materials, equipment pilot verification and industrialization.
The project, led by Guangzhou Hydrogen Fuel Cell Industry Innovation Consortium, is being built in Guangzhou Private Science and Technology Park in Baiyun district, marking a significant step for the district in seizing opportunities to develop the hydrogen energy sector. The project spans over 30,000 square meters, with a total building area exceeding 110,000 sq m.
The industrial platform aims to address critical technological challenges in the industrial chain of hydrogen energy, focusing on core materials and key equipment. It will serve as a comprehensive capacity-building center integrating pilot verification, testing and certification, technological development, and industrial incubation.

Yang Qiang, chairman of Guangdong Yuntao Hydrogen Energy Technology, one of the leading companies in the Guangzhou Hydrogen Fuel Cell Industry Innovation Consortium, emphasized the platform's role in implementing national hydrogen energy development strategies.
The consortium invites global enterprises, research institutions, and experts to join this effort, transforming the platform into a hub for technological innovation and industry growth, Yang said.
Over the past year, the consortium has made strides, including deploying over 4,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and building up the first high-capacity hydrogen refueling station in South China. The new platform aims to further enhance China's hydrogen energy capabilities, targeting a production value exceeding 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion) and the promotion of 6,000 commercial hydrogen heavy trucks in 2026.
