Baiyun tunnel project advances, set to open by year-end
Pipe jacking work on the right tube of the tunnel under Airport Road on Baiyun Second Line has been completed, marking a core milestone of the arterial road project scheduled for full completion and opening by the end of 2026.
Stretching about 770 meters in total, the tunnel features two-way four lanes for both main and auxiliary roads, with a 58.5-m pipe-jacking segment beneath the busy Airport Road.
Constructed 20 m underground amid dense pipelines and adjacent metro lines, the project adopted pipeline suspension protection, real-time geological monitoring and optimized traffic diversion to avoid disrupting ground transport and metro safety.

Covering 1.88 kilometers, Baiyun Second Line links the Tanchong Interchange to Qifu Road, with a 560-m section already open to traffic.
Upon completion, it will form an integrated ground-underground transport network with Metro Lines 12 and 14 at Xinshixu Station, easing congestion on Airport Road and Baiyun Avenue and shortening trips between the Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station and Baiyun New Town.
Baiyun has been accelerating its "11 Horizontal and Nine Vertical" road network, putting 24 km of nine new roads into service last year to better connect downtown with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
