Baiyun district in Guangzhou issued a pre-announcement on July 17 for an international design competition for the central industrial community of Guangzhou Sci-Tech Park for Private Enterprises.

The competition offers a total prize pool of 8.7 million yuan ($1.29 million) to attract top design firms from around the world.

The top three winners will each receive 2 million yuan; the fourth to sixth place winners will be awarded 500,000 yuan each; and the seventh to 10th place winners will each get 300,000 yuan.

Organized by the Guangzhou Baiyun Urban Development Investment Group, the project covers 14.8 hectares and includes both master planning and architectural design, with a gross floor area totaling approximately 310,000 square meters.

The development aims to build an integrated industrial community combining industrial services, commercial facilities and talent housing to address the current shortage of supporting amenities and promote closer industry-city integration.

The competition is not open to consortia or individual applicants. Participants must have proven track records in relevant architectural design projects, including hotels and commercial, residential, or mixed-use complexes.

The lead designer must personally undertake the work and attend the final presentation, and the team must include at least one native Chinese-speaking designer to ensure an accurate understanding of the requirements.
