New intercity rail to connect Baiyun, Shenzhen airports
A new section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, linking Zhuliao and Xintang South stations, is set to open soon.
Together with the upcoming Dongguan West Connecting Line, it will further densify the Pearl River Delta intercity rail network and accelerate the formation of a "one-hour living circle" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Stretching 48.2 kilometers and featuring seven new stations, the new section will directly connect Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.
During a trial ride organized by Guangzhou Metro Group on July 21, an "express" train covered the route from Zhuliao to Zhenlong in about 15 minutes.

Adopting a metro-style "all-stop + express" operation model, the line will integrate seamlessly into the regional intercity rail system.
Upon opening, it will link with the existing Xintang South-Shenzhen Airport section, creating a continuous north-south corridor through eastern Guangzhou and significantly enhancing cross-city travel efficiency.
The Dongguan West Connecting Line will also link it to the Guangzhou-Huizhou Intercity Railway, offering more flexible routing options.
All integrated testing and commissioning has been completed. The new section will adopt the "dual-ticketing system" combining multi-channel payment and the national 12306 platform.
