Baiyun athletes shine at Provincial Games
The 17th Guangdong Provincial Games, which concluded on Aug 22, proved a resounding success for athletes from Baiyun district, Guangzhou. Of the 169 competitors trained and fielded by the district, they captured 169 athletes trained and secured a total of 110 top-three finishes, a performance that played a key role in propelling Guangzhou to the top of both total points and gold medals.
Baiyun athletes competed in 30 events, including basketball, football, swimming, athletics, volleyball, boxing, and fencing, achieving the city’s third-highest championship score.

Notably, this year's Games marked the debut of 3x3 basketball as an official event. Baiyun athletes excelled in this historic debut, with Li Bowen, Lu Chang and Liu Siyuan winning the men's A group, while Ling Yaoping and Wang Yuhan took the women's B group title.
In athletics, Baiyun athletes earned four golds, 11 silvers, and three bronzes. Highlights include Li Hongle's victory in the men's 800m and Yu Wanxing's win in the men's long jump.
Baiyun swimmers won 10 golds and two silvers, breaking three records, with Jiang Yongru from Jiangcun Primary School emerging as a "triple gold" champion.

Baiyun was awarded the new "County (District) Contribution Award", with Longgui School and Pingsha Peiying School receiving the "Talent Nurturing Award". These achievements underscore Baiyun's commitment to integrating sports and education, laying a solid foundation for future sports talent development.
