S China's largest air membrane facility deployed in Baiyun
An air membrane facility, the largest in South China, used for foundation pit construction, is being used at the Baiyun Exhibition Center project in Guangzhou on Sept 8.
Located in the bustling Baiyun district, the project is a significant investment by Guangzhou Baiyun Industrial Investment Group, constructed by China Railway 16th Bureau Group, with a total investment of 2.63 billion yuan ($391 million).

The facility spans approximately 25,000 square meters, featuring a custom-designed irregular dome that enhances construction efficiency and environmental protection.
This state-of-the-art air membrane technology addresses the dual challenges posed by Guangzhou's harsh weather conditions and dense urban environment. The membrane structure, engineered to withstand typhoon-force winds up to level 14, integrates a PLC-based intelligent control platform and comprehensive safety measures, ensuring 24/7 monitoring and optimal operating conditions.
The facility reduces noise pollution by 60 percent and minimizes dust dispersion, helping safeguard the ecological integrity of the nearby Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area and surrounding residential zones. By enabling uninterrupted construction regardless of weather, it is expected to save 171 days in the project timeline.
The core components of the air membrane can be fully dismantled and reused, embodying a low-carbon, circular construction philosophy throughout its lifecycle.
