Baiyun rowers strike gold at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games
The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan witnessed a triumphant day for China in the rowing competitions on Sept 24, as athletes from the Guangdong International Rowing Center based in Baiyun district, Guangzhou, secured three gold medals across key events.
The day began at 7:50 AM with the men's double sculls final, where Nie Yide, trained in Guangdong, and his teammate Yi Xudi demonstrated exceptional skill and strategy. Despite facing tough competition from athletes representing Uzbekistan and India, the duo maintained a steady pace and strategic lead to secure the gold medal, with Nie successfully defending his Asian Games title.
At 1:30 pm, the women's double sculls final saw Guangdong-trained Shen Shuangmei, a seasoned Olympic competitor, pairing with Wang Sixuan. The pair's seamless coordination and dominant performance led them to victory, reaffirming China's prowess in women's rowing on the Asian Games stage.
The day concluded with the men's quadruple sculls final at 3:20 pm, when rising star Mu Xiaolong from Guangdong, with teammates Zhang Xiuli, Xue Hao, and Ou Zhiwei, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and power, securing the gold with a commanding lead.
