Baiyun station wins China's top civil engineering prize
The integrated transportation hub project of Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station, co-built by Guangzhou Metro Group as a key player in construction, has won the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize, the highest honor in the country's civil engineering sector.
The award was announced at the recent 2026 Academic Annual Conference of the China Civil Engineering Society, which was held in Chengdu, the capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan province.

Located in Baiyun district, the project adopts an integrated construction approach that coordinates railway stations, metro stations, supporting terminals, and municipal facilities. It seamlessly connects four railway lines and six metro lines, making it the most integrated transportation hub in China and the largest in terms of overlying development.

The project overcame multiple engineering challenges, including construction in karst-heavy areas, a cluster of 35-meter-deep foundation pits near operating railways, and multi-party coordination within limited space. A smart digital management platform was also built to cover passenger services, equipment control, vehicle scheduling, commercial operations, and property management.
This award recognizes Guangzhou Metro Group's breakthroughs in multi-network hub planning, station-city integration, and engineering innovation under complex conditions, providing a replicable model for hub construction in China's mega-city centers.
