Baiyun to add new hospital, expected to open in 2028
The Ninth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University, located in Baiyun Lake Digital Technology City, is racing toward the completion of its basement structure, marking a major step forward ahead of its planned opening in 2028.
The hospital, situated at the northwest corner of the intersection of Baiyun Lake Avenue and Zhugang Road, has a floor area of 108,000 square meters. It will include an outpatient and emergency building, an inpatient building, and a research and prevention building, with 500 beds.

Construction has faced some major hurdles due to the site's karst-heavy geology, where underground caves and soil cavities are complexly distributed.
The project team innovatively used fluidized stabilized soil to pretreat these cavities, notably improving the pile quality. The diaphragm wall work for the foundation pit support was completed 13 days ahead of schedule, creating valuable time for subsequent excavation and structural work.
The facility will serve as a comprehensive third-grade hospital — the highest level in China's three-tier grading system for public hospitals — serving Baiyun and radiating across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a regional medical center.
