Founded in Los Angeles in 1997, EDC has been held in Las Vegas, London, Mexico City, and many other cities worldwide. It was first held in China in 2018 and has since attracted over 300,000 attendees in Shanghai, Zhuhai, and Suzhou.

The Guangzhou event is expected to welcome more than 20,000 spectators. Organizers said the festival will boost local spending in dining, accommodation, and related sectors while enhancing Baiyun's influence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and supporting Guangzhou's development as an international consumption center.

The venue, an 180,000-square-meter music park with a 30,000-capacity outdoor lawn, is part of the 1,650-mu (110-hectare) Guangzhou New Gateway complex, which also houses a bonded warehouse, a global beauty product selection center, an outlet park, and a hotel.

The EDC event will be the park's first major activity, with more performances and trade events to follow.
