Baiyun district in Guangzhou has released its 10th batch of district-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) representative items, adding 15 projects across five categories and bringing the district's total to 66.

The newly listed projects include dragon boat rowing (Renhe), the Shima peach blossom legend, Xia's Fist, white cut chicken cooking techniques, and Lingnan stasis-removing and bone-setting therapy.

The Shima peach blossom legend traces its roots to Shima village in Baiyun, where a centuries-old folk tale tells of a celestial steed turned to stone and a mythical "peach of immortality" — a story that has blossomed alongside the village's famous peach orchards and its beloved Spring Festival tradition of displaying peach blossoms. Traditional craftsmanship remains the mainstay of the new list, with 10 projects. A highlight is the newly added folk custom of dragon boat rowing in Renhe town, known as the "home of dragon boats".

The tradition, practiced along the Liuxi River for over 300 years, features a month-long festival with fixed dates in the fifth month of the lunar calendar and complete rituals including boat awakening, racing, and boat storage. More than 10,000 residents now take part in this tradition, and over 20 traditional dragon boats have been preserved.

Lingnan-style food and cooking techniques also feature prominently, including white cut chicken, preserved meat, roast pork, soup dumplings, salted egg yolks, and Cantonese dim sum such as walnut buns.

Two traditional medicine projects were added, showcasing Baiyun's deep roots in Chinese medicinal culture.
