Huangbian chicken-heart persimmon
Hidden in the heart of Guangzhou's Baiyun district, the Huangbian chicken-heart persimmon is a treasured local gem with over 200 years of history. Grown exclusively in Huangbian village, this small, heart-shaped fruit weighs just 20-25 grams but delivers a uniquely sweet, refreshing taste. Its standout feature is no seed at all—thanks to the village's sandy red soil, which, over the centuries, has transformed the once-seeded fruit into a smooth, juicy delight.

Unlike common persimmons, its stem remains bright green even when ripe—a signature trait locals are proud of. Traditionally reserved as a tribute to the elderly, this "non-sale" fruit is now gradually gaining wider recognition, with expanded cultivation in towns like Zhongluotan and Jianggao.
A local legend adds a touch of magic: a buried "earth dragon" was said to have swallowed all the seeds, leaving behind only seedless fruits for generations to enjoy. Huangbian chicken-heart persimmon, regarded either as a cultural myth or an exceptional botanical phenomenon, stands out as one of the most exceptional cultivars in Baiyun.
